Marilena Barbera Perricone

Perricone is Sicily's nearly forgotten grape, and in Marilena Barbera's hands it turns out deep, peppery and sorrowful, a wine of black cherry, sun-dried earth and old rooms. It is for a table where family history is served alongside the food, and nobody quite agrees on the versions. Drink it slowly, and listen.
